Section 1 - Demographics - Statistical Summary - Comments

Demographics area contains demographic information for the physician, patient, IDTF, and DME. This generally includes name, business name (if applicable), address, telephone, fax, and more.

General Statistics under the 'Oximetry Report' heading provide details about the start/end times of the test, serial numbers, software version numbers, valid times, time excluded due to artifact and a session count.

The statistics area shows how the test was ordered by the physician ('on room air' or 'on oxygen'). Here we also provide High, low, average, and standard deviation for pulse (not artifact) and oxygen saturation levels recorded during the test. Next we provide cumulative times and percentages of the total valid time for saturation ranges. Cumulative time <=89 and <= 88 are the most commonly used statistics to determine Oxygen qualification according to CMS criteria.

The Comments/Alerts Section shows several important items for the test -

  • CMS Criteria Comments: Our computerized analysis of the test data suggests to us whether or not a patient may have qualified for oxygen therapy according to medicare guidelines. This statement is not intended to be a guideline for anyone to use to determine a patient's need for treatment or for insurance coverage. Currently IDS uses the cumulative time at or below 89 and 88 for these determinations. Due to difficulty in interpretation of CMS guidelines, IDS excludes the calculation for desaturations greater than 5% for 5 cumulative minutes in this determination for Medicare coverage criteria.
  • Additional Comments from Test Order: Reiterates any additional Comments or instructions from physicians or IDTF on the original test orders.
  • HME Comments: Comments from the HME courier
  • Alerts: Shows items/error recorded during the upload. For example, if the patient name was spelled wrong in the IDS palm software or the order, or if there is a Mis-match on physician name or UPIN.

Section 2 - Summary of Desaturation Events

Desaturation events summary reports the following for desaturation events that drop by 5% points within a 2 minute sliding window.( Desaturation events end when the saturation level makes an up-turn. Events with Artifact are Excluded from all calculations):

  • Displays the total count of all desaturation events.
  • Displays the total count and cumulative time of events with duration of less than 3 minutes
  • Displays the total count and cumulative time of events with duration of more than 3 minutes
  • Displays the count of events where the saturation dropped to 88% or below
  • Average duration of the events
  • Average number of events per hour (the desaturation event index)
  • Average Onset Spo2 of all events (i.e. the mean high Spo2 for all events)
  • Average low Spo2 for all events (i.e. the mean low Spo2 for all events)

Section 3 - Individual Desaturation Event Details

This chart details each individual desaturation event summarized in Section 2 Above. It provides the start time, end time, duration, Onset Sat, Sat low for each desaturation recorded

Section 4 - Pulse and Oxygen Level Distributions - Histogram

This chart/histogram provides the cumulative time at each pulse range and saturation level recorded during the test.

Section 5 - 2 Hr Per Page Graphs with Desat Event Indicators

These graphs are displayed in landscape mode, with each 2 hour block of pulse/oximetry chart on a single page. The IDS graphs are labeled with numbers that identify each desaturation event as listed in the chart in Section 4. Under the graph there are lines that indicate the duration of the desaturation events that are labeled. Note the color coded graphs. Colors change to indicate where the saturation or pulse levels start to diminish to critical levels (=89 and 88 or below)

The picture above shows the first 2 pages of graphs out of a total of 5 pages.

Section 6 - Session Reporting

Session reporting shows some details for tests that are recorded with multiple sessions. A session ends when an oximeter powers off for whatever reason. The session begins again when it is powered back on.
